Spray Tanning Workspace
Area
A private area is best because this will help the client feel comfortable as they will be standing in the spray room partially undressed. The spray room should be large enough so that the client and your necessary equipment will fit comfortably. Have an area for client to place/hang their clothing, bag and jewelry. The Pop-Up Spray Tent makes a perfect cubicle area for spraying. Cleaning is easy, it contains most all overspray which may be experienced, and can be folded away when not in use. It’s best not to do your spray tanning in a room with carpet because of any overspray that may get on it. Ideally, try to have a room set up with walls and floors that are easy to wipe clean.
Lighting
Keep the area as well lit as you can so that you can see where the tan is being applied. The client may feel a little uncomfortable being under a “spotlight” but as long as the room is comfortable, you can reassure them that this is necessary to achieve the best tan possible.
Ventilation
The single most important step you can take toward safe ventilation is to adopt an effective air cleaner. The Sunless Store offers a commercial version in the form of a Performance Air Cleaner and Extraction Fan. This has a built-in filter holder and comes with an Arm & Hammer filter with a recommended MERV rating of 8. You want enough airflow so that the work area is comfortable and not filled with overspray.
Cleanliness
Take the time to clean up after each client and at the end of your day. There will be some overspray that can settle and it’s best to keep that at a minimum. Also, keep in mind that if your floor is tiled, a client can pick up solution on the bottom of their feet if they aren’t wearing foot protection.
